Police to reward Rs.1 million cash for the proper informatio?n regarding the Batti bank robbery[ Tuesday, 05 July 2011, 04:25.57 AM GMT +05:30 ]The police is offering a Rs. 1m cash reward for any information which could lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in the recent armed robbery of a Bank in Batticaloa.

A statement released  by the police department said that IGP N.K Illangakoon has decided to offer the reward for credible information related to the incident.

Men with face masks on and weapons in their hands had robbed the bank last Thursday and fled with Rs. 3 million in their hands.

Following the incident the police once again issued a deadline for all political groups operating  the the east to handover their illegal weapons.

A discussion in this regard was held last Saturday with several Tamil political party representatives in Batticaloa.

No emergency decision regarding Sri Lanka

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh states that noemergency decisions regarding Sri Lanka will be taken.

 

He stated this in response to a question posed by ajournalist at a lengthy media briefing held in New Delhi today (29).

 

The �thats Tamil� website quoting Singh states that he willcontinue to closely observe the various issues related to the Tamil communityin Sri Lanka and the prevalent political situation in the country.

 

The Prime Minister reiterated that no special action will betaken in regard to Sri Lanka and that India will adhere to the same principlesgoverning relations between neighboring countries such as China, Pakistan andBangladesh in dealing with Sri Lanka.

A petition regarding the clash between the police and employees in the FTZ was handed over to the HRC

A petition regarding the clash between the police and employees in the FTZ was handed over to the HRC[ Wednesday, 29 June 2011, 08:35.14 AM GMT +05:30 ]A petition regarding the clash between the police and employees of the Katunayake Free Trade Zone (FTZ)was handed over to the Human Rights Commission (HRC) this morning.

The petition was handed over to the HRC by a group of UNP MPs including Ravi Karunanayake, Tissa Attanayake and Jayalath Jayawardena.

Speaking to the media UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake said that several employees of the FTZ suffered physical and mental trauma after the clash.

He said that while one employee had killed  several others are still suffering from the scars of the incident but are unable to come forward and seek compensation as they fear for their lives.

As a result, he said, the UNP together with a few others had decided to submit a petition to the HRC to seek its intervention.
