Police to reward Rs.1 million cash for the proper informatio?n regarding the Batti bank robbery[ Tuesday, 05 July 2011, 04:25.57 AM GMT +05:30 ]The police is offering a Rs. 1m cash reward for any information which could lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in the recent armed robbery of a Bank in Batticaloa.

A statement released  by the police department said that IGP N.K Illangakoon has decided to offer the reward for credible information related to the incident.

Men with face masks on and weapons in their hands had robbed the bank last Thursday and fled with Rs. 3 million in their hands.

Following the incident the police once again issued a deadline for all political groups operating  the the east to handover their illegal weapons.

A discussion in this regard was held last Saturday with several Tamil political party representatives in Batticaloa.

400 million American dollars worth of cash deposited by migrant Tamils in support of Tamil Eelam Liberation tigers[ Wednesday, 29 June 2011, 01:30.59 PM GMT +05:30 ]“Diwayina” newspaper has published a news item that migrant Tamils in support of Tamil Eelam Liberation tigers have deposited about 400 million American dollars worth of cash in banks. Eight bank accounts in five important countries in the world have deposited this cash.Information about four banks accounts operated in Canada has been exposed by the Canadian police unit.. Reports states a massive amount of funds from migrant Tamils who are supportive of Tamil Liberation tigers are maintained by the Switzerland banks. The Canadian police unit had given information about the details of 21 diplomats attached to tiger supported migrant Tamil movements. “Diwayina” newspaper quoted during the recent inquiries done against the tigers in Nederland, the details of bank accounts were revealed. < submit_url = '';

CIDA is contributi​ng $5.6 million to Sri Lanka

CIDA is contributi​ng $5.6 million to Sri Lanka[ Wednesday, 29 June 2011, 08:23.42 AM GMT +05:30 ]The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), is contributing $5.6 million to support Sri Lanka to implement its National Languages Policy.

Canadian Minister of International Cooperation Beverley J. Oda said in his  statement that  Canada would share their expertise and experience with Sri Lanka to implement bilingualism.

The Minister said the government specifically requested support from Canada in this area during her visit to the country in 2009.

Ms. Oda said Canada's development program in Sri Lanka is focused on the promotion of equitable and sustainable economic growth emphasizing the important role of human rights in reducing poverty.

Canadian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Bruce Levy has signed the memorandum of understanding on behalf of Canada to implement the policy so that Sri Lankans can receive government services in their own official language.

National Languages and Social Integration Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara who signed the MoU on behalf of Sri Lanka has said that Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa encourages the implementation of both Sinhala and Tamil languages as official languages after the end of the war.
