Manual and computerized elections results for LG polls

The Elections Commissioner has decided to release manual andcomputerized results of the forthcoming local government elections to theparties contested the election on July 23.

 

The new measure by the commissioner will begin with the forthcoming LocalGovernment polls

 

The aim is to consolidate the veracity of the results. This decision hasalready been intimated to political parties and Independent Groups. Appealswere made to undertake recounts of certain electorates during the pastelections. Some had accused that there had been faults in some results.

 

Taking this situation into consideration and in response to request by politicalparty representatives, the Elections Secretariat said it had been agreed toprovide manual and computerized results.

 

In the meantime the official poll cards for the elections scheduled to beheld on the 23rd of this month had already been directed to the DistrictSecretariats.

 

DIG Elections, Gamini Navaratne said that a special security programme willbe in place in this respect. Mr. Navaratne also said that special security willbe provided on the 12th of this month, when postal voting will take place, theGovernment Information Department said.
