Massive drug trade between Maldives and Sri Lanka exposed.[ Saturday, 02 July 2011, 05:12.21 PM GMT +05:30 ]Information regarding the drug business which occurred massively between Maldives and Sri Lanka had got exposed. A project named “operation Shane” which was operated by the Maldivian police force lead the arrest of the suspected persons connected with the drug trafficking.Allegations were that four Maldives citizens and one Sri lankan jointly was engaged in drug trafficking worth of ten million American dollars. A Maldivian woman had smuggled nine kilo gram weighing heroine drugs, was questioned by Sri lanka and Maldivian police revealed information about the drugs trafficking. Shooting between two UPFA members

Shooting between two UPFA members[ Thursday, 30 June 2011, 08:02.49 AM GMT +05:30 ]A clash erupted between two UPFA members in Kaduwela, Nawagamuwa this morning resulting in gunshots being fired, the police said.

Police media spokesman Priyashantha Jayakody said that both UPFA members opened fire on each other but no one killed or injured.

However at least two vehicles were damaged in the shooting incident, the police spokesman added.

The Nawagamuwa police are investigating the incident.

A petition regarding the clash between the police and employees in the FTZ was handed over to the HRC

A petition regarding the clash between the police and employees in the FTZ was handed over to the HRC[ Wednesday, 29 June 2011, 08:35.14 AM GMT +05:30 ]A petition regarding the clash between the police and employees of the Katunayake Free Trade Zone (FTZ)was handed over to the Human Rights Commission (HRC) this morning.

The petition was handed over to the HRC by a group of UNP MPs including Ravi Karunanayake, Tissa Attanayake and Jayalath Jayawardena.

Speaking to the media UNP MP Ravi Karunanayake said that several employees of the FTZ suffered physical and mental trauma after the clash.

He said that while one employee had killed  several others are still suffering from the scars of the incident but are unable to come forward and seek compensation as they fear for their lives.

As a result, he said, the UNP together with a few others had decided to submit a petition to the HRC to seek its intervention.

Drug trafficking between Sri lanka and Maldives.

Maldives police arrested a group which was in connection smuggling bulky drugs between Sri lanka and Maldives. An Agency centre has been originated in Sri Lanka, and drug smuggling is processed states investigation.Information states the arrest took place last Thursday. Information states, the arrested are the main drug traffickers in Maldives. According to intelligence unit information, the smuggling activities are manipulated from year 2005.
