Government hopes to achieve victory in up comming Local Council election in the Northern province[ Wednesday, 06 July 2011, 02:49.06 PM GMT +05:30 ]Government has taken several steps to achieve victory in the up coming local council election in Northern Province.

According to the sources high ranking official of the government has organize a special discussions at the Temple Trees this regard.

Through the election canvassing the government is hoping to gain good name among the people in Northern Province.

During the discussion government delegates pointed out by achieving victory in the Northern Province government will be able to solve the problems of war crime in an easy way.

According to the sources during the discussion official has decided to appoint Minister Basil Rajapaksa to administrate all the election work in the province and also they decided to appoint special armed group to cause disturbance to the election activities of opposition parties in the Northern Province, sources said.

Minister Douglas dreaming to be the next CM of Northern Province

Minister Douglas dreaming to be the next CM of Northern Province[ Tuesday, 05 July 2011, 05:00.24 AM GMT +05:30 ]The Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development and the leader of the EPDP Douglas Devananda said that he will contest for the post of Chief Minister (CM) of the Northern Province in the upcoming polls which is schedule to hold in the beginning of 2012.

Minister made this announcement while addressing the gathering organize by the primary school teachers of Northern Province at the Jaffna Weerasingham hall yesterday.

During his speech Minister pointed out has a government Minister I helped several people to solve their problems and also I introduce several development projects in the province to uplift the life style of our people but when I selected as a CM it’s easy for me to carry out all these works said the Minister.

Minister finally said that he hopes all the people of the Northern Province ill support him to be the next CM of this province.

However when Minister made these request teachers who present at this occasion maintain silence, sources said.

Terrorism to up raise in the Eastern Province - Sarath Fonseka[ Monday, 04 July 2011, 02:01.31 PM GMT +05:30 ]Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka said recent shooting incidents and the Bank robbery are the signals of the beginning of the terrorist activities in the Eastern province.

Fonseka made this statement towards the journalists when he was brought up to the Colombo High Courts for the hearing of white flag case this morning.

He also said since two years before the war victory celebrations signals of terrorist activities have up raise in the society, Fonseka said.

Major General Boniface Perera warned the armed groups in the Eastern Province to suffer unless they surrender their weapons[ Saturday, 02 July 2011, 04:45.17 AM GMT +05:30 ]The Commander of Sri Lanka Army Eastern Command Major General Boniface Perera warned the armed groups in the Eastern Province to suffer unless they surrender their weapons.

Addressing a meeting held in Batticaloa today, the senior military officer said that military had identified the persons carrying weapons in the area and warned them to surrender cautioning that they would be followed otherwise.

Paramilitary groups that surrendered their weapons earlier were called for this discussion participated by the senior defence officials of the area.

The police and military have taken stern measures to tighten security in the area after the robbery of Rs. 3.7 million from Muttur People's Bank.
