Bookmark and Share Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage has ordered the SLC Interim Committee to look into the remarks made by Kumar Sangakkara while delivering his MCC Spirit of Cricket lecture yesterday (July 04).

I have also instructed the Interim Committee to submit a report to me regarding the speech, the Minister revealed to Ada Derana.

Former Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara in his ?2011 Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture? delivered at the Lord?s Cricket Ground spoke of the endless political power-struggles that bedevil Sri Lanka Cricket.

He had also reflected upon the heavy responsibilities on Sri Lankan cricketers to promote reconciliation after the end of the civil war that had blighted the country.

?Players from within the team itself became involved in power games within the board,? he had expressed. ?Officials elected to power in this way in turn manipulated player loyalty to achieve their own ends. At times board politics would spill over into the team causing rift, ill feeling and distrust.?

Australian Foreign Minister UN Human Rights Council to investigate about the war crime in Sri-Lanka

Australian Foreign Minister UN Human Rights Council to investigat?e about the war crime in Sri-Lanka[ Tuesday, 05 July 2011, 04:24.18 AM GMT +05:30 ]The Minister of Foreign Affairs Australia Kevin Rudd says new information about atrocities against Sri Lankan civilians at the end of the civil war is appalling.

A new British television documentary has shown evidence of civilians being killed by government troops.

The 30-year war, which ended in 2009, was waged between Tamils seeking to create their own state and the Sri Lankan government and military.

Last year, a United Nations panel of experts found there was credible evidence that up to 40,000 civilians were killed in the war.

Mr Rudd says the UN's Human Rights Council needs to reinvestigate the issue.

"I believe their deliberation on it was inadequate and I would call upon - as does the Australian Government through its mission in Geneva - the Human Rights Council to revisit this matter and to examine once again whether their original findings can any longer be regarded as well founded," he said.

Alleged sale of substandard fuel by Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) fuel stations has now been resolved - Minister Premajayantha

Alleged sale of substandard fuel by Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) fuel stations has now been resolved - Minister Premajayantha[ Sunday, 03 July 2011, 03:28.18 PM GMT +05:30 ]The Minister of Petroleum Industries Susil Premajayantha said the recent controversy over the alleged sale of substandard fuel by Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) fuel stations has now been resolved with the Corporation receiving its normal fuel supplies.

Premajayantha explained that the complaints have been made following the distribution of an emergency supply of 20,000 metric tons of fuel imported by the CPC when the regular fuel supplier had informed during Poson Poya last month that the shipment would be delayed by five days.

"When the emergency supplies were distributed to the fuel stations, the amount of fuel has been very low in the tanks and the new load of fuel pumped to the tanks at the stations had got mixed with sludge and other material at the bottom of the tank," the Minister said.

Therefore, he observed that vehicles that were pumped with the fuel had experienced difficulty.

"There was no issue over the quality of the fuel that was imported. The problem was that the fuel had got mixed with sludge in the tanks at the fuel stations," he said.

However, the Minister said that the CPC has received the normal fuel supplies that have been distributed and the issue of substandard fuel has been addressed.

When asked as to how the CPC paid for the 20,000 metric tons of emergency fuel supplies, Premajayantha said that the country usually receives a six month credit period and the emergency supplies were also purchased under the same conditions.

"The Cabinet Appointed Tender Board (CATB) had the mandate to authorize such emergency purchases," he said.
