Do not fill the lands with disposal items[ Sunday, 03 July 2011, 03:48.23 PM GMT +05:30 ]Environmentalists claim that the landfill waste disposal system currently being constructed in Noope, Kirindiwela in the Gampaha District will cause immense destruction to the environment.

Environmentalist Ravindra Kariyawasam, National Coordinator of Center for Environmental Studies, said that this system has been rejected by several countries due to this reason.

When inquired Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), Charitha Herath in this regard he expressed that there is no basis to the allegations by the environmentalists and accused them of getting facts wrong.

There is not a single country in the world that has rejected this waste disposal system, he pointed out while adding that out of all existing scientific methods for final waste disposal, this is the most appropriate system.

Be aware when buying lands in Sri-Lanka - Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon[ Thursday, 30 June 2011, 08:06.01 AM GMT +05:30 ]The Minister of Lands and Land Development, Janaka Bandara Tennakoon warned people by asking them to be extra careful when buying lands in certain districts in the island.

The Minister added that there were a lot of Government lands in the below mentioned Districts and that he was made to aware of a racket where state lands were being sold.

The Minister also went on to say that the racketeers were showing fake deeds to entice buyers.  

The Minister also pointed out this alleged racket is carried out in Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Rathnapura, Moneragala, Nuwaraeliya, Ampara, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.
