Legal advice to north and east people

Legal advice to north and east people[ Monday, 04 July 2011, 04:01.42 PM GMT +05:30 ]Sinhala media has published a news item that the native people of north and east will be provided with legal advice. Sri Lankan Legal Advisory Commission informed the affected people by war in the north and east will be given legal advice on free basis.

In the aim of providing legal advice, approximately 61 centers are originated in the north and east. Already five centers have commenced its functions. After the resettlement activities are accomplish, the daily problems faced by the resettled people will be settled, and on this objective such activities will be  processed was stated. In regard to land rights including many issues, divisional people are waiting for legal advice.

Special security arrangements to obstruct illegal intrude by Indian fishermen. 

Special security arrangements are advanced to obstruct illegal entry of Indian fishermen to Sri Lankan sea area. In the aim of protecting the Sri Lankan sea region, such security arrangements are processed. 

By targeting Kankesanthurai, security arrangements are made was mentioned by Coastal Line Security division Director Riyad Admiral Daya Tharmapriya. Special security arrangements are advanced in the aim of obstructing Indian fisherman intruding Sri Lankan sea waters, for which navy personnel’s coordination has been obtained was mentioned.

Foreigners can travel North sans approval - Defence Ministry[ Monday, 04 July 2011, 02:07.18 PM GMT +05:30 ]Ministry of Defence lifted the imposed pre-travel approval exclusively for foreign passport holders when travelling to the North with effect from today (04).

According to Military Liaison Officer Officials, foreign pass port holders are no longer required to produce a MOD travel approval document at Omanthai entry/exist point- the main travel checking point located in Vavuniya.

“As normalcy is flourishing in the country we see that travel restrictions to foreign passport holders as no longer required”, the official stated commenting on the latest move.

This is a definite sign that the country is heading in the right direction with the rapid reconciliation and development taking place in Wanni and North he further said, the Defence Ministry stated.

TNA asks for a debate in parliament on North and East situation[ Sunday, 03 July 2011, 03:53.34 PM GMT +05:30 ]The members of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has requested for a debate in parliament on the current situation in the North and East and the issues faced by the Tamil people in the area.

According to the parliamentary sources, A one-day debate has been fixed for the purpose this week.

TNA parliamentarian said the party has prepared a report on the situation in the North and East and the issues faced by the Tamil people and that it would be tabled in parliament on the day of the debate.The TNA maintains that the issues faced by the Tamil people in the North and East need to be addressed urgently.

1066 resettled in North

1066 resettled in North[ Wednesday, 29 June 2011, 05:21.25 AM GMT +05:30 ]One thousand and sixty six displaced people left their temporary camps in Vavuniya to be resettled in the original places of residence at Vallipuram and Puthukudirippu in the Mullaitivu district, the Resettlement Ministry said yesterday.

The ministry said 630 of them had lived in the Kadirgamar temporary relief village while the rest were from the Ananda Kumaraswami village.

Resettlement Minister Gunaratna Weerakoon said the displaced people had been resettled after the land mines had been cleared and confirmation obtained that the area was safe.

He said the government would provide dry rations for six months until the newly settled people could fend for themselves and added that infrastructure facilities such as electricity, roads and livelihood would be provided by the government.

The minister said each of the families who left the camps were given a parcel of dry rations worth Rs.4,500 at a total cost of Rs.1.2 million.

The minister said 254,039 people had been resettled so far in the Northern Province and those still living in camps would be resettled before the end of this year adding that President Mahinda Rajapaksa had asked the relevant authorities to complete the process of resettlement as early as possible.
