Bookmark and Share The High Commission of India states that Sri Lankans of Indian origin are now able to trace their roots through a scheme launched by the Government of India.

The Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA) of the Indian government launched the scheme called Tracing the Roots in October 2008 to facilitate Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in tracing their roots in India.

PIOs who intend to trace their roots in India need to apply in prescribed form through the High Commission of India, Colombo, Consulates General of India in Jaffna and Hambantota and Assistant High Commission of India, Kandy by depositing the prescribed fee.

Guidelines and application form for this purpose is available on MOISs website http:/moia.gov.in.

The charges per application is Rs.72,480/-.  The amount has to be paid at the time of applying.  In case the search is not successful, a sum of Rs.48,320/- will be returned to the applicant, the High Commission said in a press release.

Would it go back as far as Vijaya´s time. If that is the case, then there is no need to pay any fees: we all know our ancestors.

Find of your Indian roots what benefit citizens (now Sri Lankan) get? Is Indian government will pay doll? Dear Citizens do not get caught for this as you have to pay Rs. 72,480/-. This could be a business by GOI. God bless Sri Lanka.
