This death sentence is not new. It was given a long time back. But due to our and international appeals, the death sentence has been suspended. Our attempts are still ongoing to save her life through a pardon, Dilan Perera told Adaderana when contacted. This news may be new to a section who is trying to play up the issue by renewing an old news story while Sri Lanka is being criticized by certain international groups and activists. They should not play with peoples lives. We are still engaged in attempts to obtain a pardon and are in contact with our missions and the Saudi Arabian government. There is no truth of an immediate carrying out of the death sentence on Rizana Mr. Perera added. Viewer Comments

June 28, 2011 08:57 am RIYADH: The Indonesian government has paid SR2 million in blood money to save the life of an Indonesian maid on death row in Riyadh for killing her Yemeni employer in 2009.Indonesias Foreign Affairs Ministry sent the money to its embassy in Riyadh to secure the release of Darsem binti Dawud. The compensation was paid by two officers of the Indonesian Embassy to a panel at the Riyadh governorate dealing with the case, said Hendrar Pramutyo, an official of the embassys Citizen Protection Wing, on Saturday. The payment of blood money is an expression of the Indonesian governments commitment to protect its overseas workers at any cost.He said the Riyadh court had already decided to release the maid, who is currently languishing in the Malaz Jail. I am hopeful that the maid will be released shortly, said the embassy official.Dawud is a migrant worker hailing from the city of Subang in Indonesias West Java province. She was convicted by a Riyadh court in May 2009. The court sentenced her to death by beheading. The maid has always maintained her employer tried to rape her and she was acting in self-defense, according to reports published in a section of the Indonesian media Saturday. In January the employer´s family agreed to forgive Dawud if they were paid the compensation by July this year.Earlier, Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa had asked the Indonesian House of Representatives to approve the transfer of blood money to resolve the case, which comes under the Foreign Affairs Ministrys citizen protection budget.Due to the sensitive and immediate nature of the issue, we worry that we will miss the deadline if we keep discussing and negotiating we will end up encountering new problems, he told legislators in Jakarta on Friday. On Friday, Indonesian activists also demonstrated in front of the Saudi Embassy in Jakarta and protested against the sentence. There have also been frequent protests in Indonesia after a maid was executed in Makkah a fortnight ago.Jakarta called home its ambassador to the Kingdom Gatot Abdullah Mansyur for consultations following the execution of Indonesian maid Ruyati binti Sapubi. A formal letter of protest was also sent to Saudi Arabia.Indonesia has since announced a ban on the recruitment of workers to Saudi Arabia. The ban will be effective from Aug. 1 this year. There are 28 Indonesian maids currently on death row in Saudi Arabia, as well as 1,000 languishing in different jails across the Kingdom for petty crimes. More than 1.2 million Indonesian workers live and work in the Kingdom.EXACTLY THIS WHAT WE ARE EXPECTING FROM OUR GOVERNMENT TOO. nari bena

June 28, 2011 09:37 am Again and again, in this pathetic case, no any authorities either KSA King or government or even any other organizations can help to save this girl´s life except the pardon of the parents of infant as they are victims of this incident...but we may try to prove her actual date of birth but it won´t help since the physical document (i.e.the bogus passport obtained by crooked agency)which is indicating her age has already under court processing.....in this case if our hon. minister or authorities can produce or bring any Saudi team to investigate the actual date of her birth at Muthur B&D registrar office sometimes it might give any potential results..... June 28, 2011 12:16 pm @ Para: Hope you know the reason why each and every country has law and order. Same like Islam is also having law and order which you call "Shariah". Unlike other law and order Shariah is very strict and applies for all (regardless the cast, colour, position etc). When someone does something, Allah never gets anything but the person who does it gets the return. "We Muslims believe in Life and hereafter (hell or heaven depending on the way you live)". When a person does a good thing he gets rewarded and he will get some sort of a benefit directly or indirectly (it can be in this world or hereafter). Also when he commits a sin he will get sin and punishment directly or indirectly (it can be in this world or hereafter). If a person commits a sin/crime, he has to be punished according to the Shariah (this is common in All law and order). Whatever the punishment is, still Allah is never getting anything but justice is done and also it is a lesson to others. Example: a man steals, then his hand has to be executed, by this he will never steal again. And this will teach a lesson to others that if they steal they will also lose their hand. When the law is strict, the crimes will be low. One thing I have to tell you, there is something like this as well. Before giving punishment proper investigation has to take place and it has to be proved (Allah knows the best). Also Shariah says something like this. Person "A" tries to kill person "B", person "B" defends himself and as a result person "A" dies or gets injured. Then person "B" is not a wrong doer, he cannot be punished as "B" has self defended. Even this has to be proved. (Allah knows the best). Hope you would have understood the concept, if you need a better explanation pls check with a Moulavi they will explain you in a better way. June 28, 2011 01:35 pm @Sri Lankan Muslim, what the hell you are trying to say. You represent the whole sri lanka muslim community or you justify Sharia, I am a muslim. I hate Sharia Law This is not a law for the 21st Century people, this is a law for the primitive uncivilize people. God is great and do not belittle him by saying of Sharia as a law by God, This is the mans law that protect the rulers and Kings. Easily all the shaikhs who commit all the sins in the world hide behind sharia law and stupid idiots like you cannot see beyond an horizon because you guys believe in all the dogmas. Try free your shackles and think freely. God is love, he is not a brutal ruler. Every civilized man should get up against this barbaric law that kills and maim human being for safeguard of brutal rulers who commit all the sins of every religion. If God punish you for the crimes committed on the earth after death, then what right does the rulers have to punish for crimes? So one who does a crime have to go double punishment. Only those who have no guts to question dogmas will believe all these bullshits of religion. I am a muslim from Maradana... Fairose

June 28, 2011 02:45 pm You dont seems like a muslim though you commented with a muslim name.Srilankan muslim is absolutely correct.he clearly said punishment can be either in this world or hereafter, surprising, you didnt understand what actually he wrote. also surprised me that you being a muslim don´t know that if some one is punished for his crime with shariaw law he will not be punished hereafter by Allah..if you are a non muslim you can very well comment against sharia law with any user name, you don´t need to act as a muslim.
