Canadian Tamil tortured in Sri Lankan prison[ Saturday, 02 July 2011, 05:06.06 PM GMT +05:30 ]Sri Lankan Tamil a citizen of Canada was tortured in Sri Lankan prison was published in “The National post” media. 40 years old Roy Manojkumar Samathanam was imprisoned in Sri Lankan prison for the past three years.

He said, he had been threatened to give false statement that he had smuggled weapons and was under torture. He had now returned to Canada, and  had mentioned that he had been taken to three places in Sri Lanka and was imprisoned. The Sri Lankan Terrorist detention unit had treated him in a very cruel manner, he said.  

Sri lankan government is denying the war crimes charged against them, but he said, he is one of the witness who has faced torture and torture incidents happening in the Sri Lankan prisons.

Sri Lanka Terrorism detention unit is demanding ransom from Tamil businessmen. In connection with this, 50 persons are detained by the terrorism detention unit and are facing inquiries was mentioned by Manojkumar.

11 refugees from “Sun C” ship still serving in prison

11 refugees from “Sun C” ship still serving in prison[ Wednesday, 29 June 2011, 03:09.18 PM GMT +05:30 ]Report states, 11 Tamils from the persons who travelled to Canada through “Sun C” ship are still detained in Canadian prisons for the past one year. Canadian Emigration Unit officials had informed that continuous investigations are processed against them. The detainees are among the 492 refugees travelled to Canada through “Sun C” ship.

Four persons who were among the travellers, sailed  by the “Sun C” ship to Canada had been identified of having links with Tamil Eelam Liberation tigers, and were ordered for deportation. 

Canadian Tamil Congress had appealed other than the charged persons others should be given refugee status for which activities should be processed. Those travelled in  the “Sun C” ship had got used to the life style of that country, hence they need permission to do employment, their children should be assisted to follow education was mentioned by Congress spokesperson David Poobalapillai.
